Spicy hot pot, also known as Sichuan-style hot pot, is a popular Chinese
cuisine that has gained immense popularity worldwide. It is a communal dish
that features a boiling pot of spicy broth, where diners cook and serve their
own raw meats, vegetables, and other ingredients. Here is an English recipe for
Spicy Hot Pot that you can try at home:
Ingredients:
1 pound thinly sliced beef or lamb
1 pound thinly sliced pork or chicken
1/2 pound shrimp or squid (optional)
1/2 cup bean sprouts
1/2 cup shredded cabbage
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 cup chopped cilantro
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the hot pot by heating it on high until it boils. Add in the oil and let it heat up for a minute. Then, add in the seasoning mix (such as Sichuan peppercorns, dried chili peppers, garlic, and ginger). Stir well until fragrant.
2. Add in the meat and cook for about 5 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove from the pot and set aside.
3. In the same pot, add in the vegetables and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes or until they are tender. Add in the shrimp or squid if using and cook for another minute or two.
4. Serve hot with rice or noodles and enjoy! You can also add in some dipping sauces such as sesame oil, soy sauce, and vinegar.
Tips:
Make sure to use fresh ingredients for best flavor.
The broth can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to a day. Reheat it before serving.
If you don't have a hot pot, you can use a large pot and simmer the broth on low heat. Cook the meat and vegetables separately and then combine them in the pot when ready to serve.
